DC-VET Logo Winner: A Designer’s Journey from Passion to Triumph

In the vast realm of design, where creativity knows no bounds, a prominent figure emerges among design students enrolled in Graphic and Digital Design courses within the DC-VET WB network.

DC VET WB stands for Developing Capacity for VET Systems in Western Balkans and it’s a project funded under Key Action 2 of Erasmus+ programme aiming at tackling some key challenges of VET systems in Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina and Kosovo in the sectors of Information Technology (IT), electronics and automation with the aim to support VET schools more responsive to the market needs.

Ivan Radevic, a self-taught designer specializing in UX/UI, logos and brand identity, shines as a testament to the virtues of passion, persistence and the unwavering pursuit of excellence. With almost three years of practical experience, Radevic says, “My journey has been enriched through active participation in numerous design workshops, which have significantly deepened my understanding of the field.”

Ivan is the winner of the contest for the creation of the project logo among the students of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina Kosovo and Montenegro. The call was addressed to students enrolled in Graphic and Digital Design courses schools belonging to the network of Albanian Skills, Chamber of Economy of Montenegro, International University of Sarajevo Lifelong Learning Center (Bosnia Erzegovina) and Prishtina REA. 

What drives a designer to participate in a logo competition? According to Ivan, it’s the opportunity for skill enhancement, project acquisition, and practical experience. “Engaging in such competitions not only allows me to contribute my creative abilities but also serves as a valuable avenue for personal and professional development.”

The winning logo, crafted for a program involving collaboration among the Western Balkan countries, tells a compelling story. Ivan explains, “The intersecting circles forming a star symbolize their shared goals, equality, and mutual support. The larger circle surrounding them represents globalism and connection, emphasizing the countries’ integration into the global community.“

Design is not without its challenges. Ivan encountered the hurdle of creating a logo for a program without overtly representing its nature. He elaborated, “Recognizing this, I opted for an abstract logo mark with a hidden message that becomes clear upon explanation. This approach adds intrigue for those interested in the project, prompting them to delve deeper into the logo’s meaning.”

Winning the competition brought immense joy and pride. As Ivan recalls, “The recognition not only affirmed my work’s value but also highlighted the effectiveness of soft skills like communication and collaboration. Being chosen by a reputable European project validated potential and inspired a pursuit of more opportunities. Now, I actively participate in various contests, eager to contribute and learn.”

Ivan generously shares valuable lessons from the experience. He reflect, “Working with a well-organized and serious project significantly elevated my professionalism, resulting in higher-quality work and improved communication.” The support and encouragement from Ivans’s School ‘Elektrotehnička škola ”Vaso Aligrudić‘  played a crucial role, creating an environment where competitions were anticipated with enthusiasm.

Ivans’s journey from passion to triumph serves as an inspiration for fellow designers. As he emphasizes, “Engaging in these challenges has become a routine, shaping my lifestyle and transforming them into opportunities for growth.”
