A month in Milan: learning, living, and growing with Erasmus+
In spring 2025, Antonella and Gal.la from the centre López Vicuña in Barcelona lived a one month Erasmus experience in Milan, doing internships in different VET fields. Here’s how it went!
My name is Antonella and I spent one month in Milan as part of the Erasmus+ program, an unforgettable chapter in my life. It was not only a professional internship, but also a personal and cultural journey that broadened my perspective and left me with lasting memories.
My placement at Scuola dell’infanzia Santa Anna gave me the chance to work closely with young children and observe the Italian approach to early childhood education. The school environment was incredibly warm and inclusive. The staff welcomed us with open arms, always willing to guide and support us. Their dedication and kindness helped create a positive learning environment where I felt valued and inspired every day.
Outside the school, our daily lives took place in Cesano Maderno, where we lived in a student residence. This space quickly turned into a hub of multicultural exchange. We met students from different countries and formed strong connections through shared experiences. From group dinners and late-night talks to cultural exchanges and spontaneous laughter, these simple moments made the experience even more meaningful. It reminded me of how powerful human connection can be when people are open, curious, and kind.

One of the highlights of this Erasmus experience was discovering the beauty of Italy beyond Milan. On weekends, we explored nearby towns and small cities, each with its own charm and unique character. These trips helped us connect with the culture on a deeper level through food, art, architecture, and history.
Throughout the journey, I was lucky to have a travel companion who made every step of this experience smoother and more enjoyable. We supported each other during challenges, shared responsibilities, and celebrated the small wins together.
I am truly grateful for this experience and for all the people who were part of it — from the teachers at the school to the friends we made in the residence. Erasmus gave me more than just professional development — it gave me confidence, friendships, cultural understanding, and memories that I will carry with me for a lifetime.
One month ago, I had the opportunity to go to Milan for my Erasmus experience. I stayed for one month and did my practice in a school called Scuola dell’infanzia Santa Anna. It was a very beautiful and happy place. The children were full of energy, and I enjoyed spending time with them. I played, helped in activities, and learned many new things. The teachers and all the staff were very kind and friendly. From the first day, they made me feel welcome. They explained everything with patience and always had a smile. I felt comfortable and part of the team.

During this time, I lived in a student residence in Cesano Maderno. It was a quiet and nice place. The people working there were also very warm and helpful. In the residence, I met students from many different countries. It was very special. We shared food, music, and stories, cooked together, played games, and spent time talking. Everyone was open, friendly, and respectful. We became good friends in a short time.
On the weekends, we visited small towns near Milan. Every place was different and beautiful. We saw old buildings, churches, and lovely streets. I enjoyed walking, taking photos, and eating Italian food. Italy has many beautiful places to see, and I am happy I could visit some of them.
This Erasmus was more than just work. It was a time to grow, to learn, and to connect with people. The warmth of the people at the school and in the residence made this experience very special. I felt welcome and happy every day. I also had a travel partner who was always there to share the experience with me.
I am very thankful for this opportunity. I learned a lot — not only in the school, but also about life, culture, and friendship. I will never forget this month in Milan. It was one of the best times of my life.
