An unforgettable journey: from Vignola to Coimbra

A group of 11 third-year students from I.I.S. “Primo Levi” in Vignola had the opportunity to participate in an Erasmus+ project in collaboration with the associations Mundus and Uniser. Their destination was the city of Coimbra, Portugal, where they experienced an unforgettable journey filled with study, work, and fun.

COIMBRA

The students departed on September 1st, traveling to Bologna Airport to catch a direct flight to Lisbon. Upon arrival, Catarina from the Mondego association contacted them to coordinate their stay in Coimbra, where they were accommodated for the entire duration of the project.

In the following days, the students explored Coimbra’s historic center, a city rich in history and culture. They visited famous landmarks such as the University of Coimbra—one of the oldest in Europe—the Botanical Garden, the Joanina Library, and the Sé Velha Cathedral. They also discovered the local cuisine, tasting traditional dishes like bacalhau à brás and the famous pastéis de nata.

INTERNSHIP

Regarding their work experience, the students were placed in various companies in the IT and electrical/electronic sectors, aligned with their studies. Divided into small groups, they had the opportunity to engage in practical and technical tasks, developing important skills for their future careers. Some worked on the maintenance and programming of IT systems, while others focused on electrical installations and repairs.

Despite initial challenges, with the support of their tutors and local colleagues, the students successfully integrated into the workplace, improving their abilities and acquiring new skills. This experience allowed them to grow not only professionally but also personally, as they built bonds with their peers and their Portuguese colleagues.

VISITS TO OTHER CITIES

During their free time, the students had the chance to visit other Portuguese cities. They traveled to Aveiro, known as the “Venice of Portugal” for its canals, and to Porto, where they walked along the Douro River and explored the famous Ribeira district. One of the most memorable excursions was to Lisbon. They also enjoyed a relaxing day at Figueira da Foz, a coastal town where they swam in the ocean for the first time!

This experience in Portugal was a unique opportunity for all participants to broaden their horizons, develop both professional and personal skills, and build new friendships. Thanks to the Erasmus+ project, the students spent a month filled with discoveries, work, and fun – an experience they will always cherish.
